ivey's is a family-owned restaurant that's been around for 12 years. the exterior and interior are distinctly yellow, green, and black, asserting that the restaurant is wholly jamaican. there are boxes and an old fridge lying around close to the seating area, and while this may not be aesthetic, i feel like it adds so much to the homey atmosphere. their relatively small menu consists of plenty of jamaican favourites, such as curry chicken, jerk chicken, ox tail, and ackee and saltfish.
i opted for the curry chicken special, which was a large serving of food (for me) at an unbeatable $6.50 price tag. the dish is simple - a heap of rice and peas topped with a hearty serving of their curry chicken. the curry was pretty simple in flavour - pieces of tender bone-in chicken with potatoes and bell peppers bathing in a yellow curry-powder-dominant gravy - but went perfectly with the rice and peas. the curry isn't spicy, but it only takes a few drops of their delicious, potent hot sauce (scotch bonnet i believe) to turn up the heat. the best (worst?) part about the hot sauce is that it has a bit of sweetness to it, which made me want more and more, even though it was quickly ripping my palate to shreds.
one thing i'd like to note is that the friendly lady working here came to my table and served a placemat and silverware before bringing my food. this is something you won't see at most restaurants, but i don't think anything made me feel more at home than this.
ivey's builds the case that family-owned restaurants are better than any new and hip openings. these are the places i want to eat at all the time, and i'll forever support these kinds of places -

Great people, great tasting food. Love it here. Jerk chicken is my go to, but their oxtail is to die for.

Ivey's is Great
It is Yellow and Green like its countries colours .
You could easily drive by and not notice this place.
When I first walked thru the door I thought it was take out only but a glance to the right and a half dozen tables .
The place is old the tables and chairs are old this is Not fine dinning nor a place to impress .
Not licenced so pop only some island brands the menue offers three sizes small , Medium and Large for most plates if not all.
I asked what is good here the older gentleman who seemed to be the only one working said very politely and very firm it is all good here. This place has Pride of ownership the service was fast and very old school it was nice .
Meal comes with a meat and potato soup do not pass on the soup it is very good.
My wife ordered the medium curried chicken it came with potato and rice I had the large jerk chicken with rice . A offer of hot sauce on the side was made it is not hot but spiced very well as is. We both took some home.
It is not a country club place it is good food at 12 to 15 dollars a plate I have paid far more for food that was no where near as good. If you like Island food you should give this place a try remember Clean old not fancy but good food a Red Stripe would have been good but life is never perfect . This is not near home but I will make a effort to get back ASAP.
If you like island food good service and can understand it is a clean older place check it out. The chef is getting it right the service is getting it right You get your own drinks from a cooler not fancy place not a new place just a good place. -

This is a small family run Caribbean foods restaurant. It doesn't look like much from outside, but once you enter your are treated like family. The food Is fresh, delicious, and a taste of Jamaica in the little city of Cambridge. Portions or generous, and enough for two meals frankly. If your not that hungry, get the lunch portion. They will treat you like royalty or their own family. You must try this at least once. Also, their beef patties are the best I've ever tasted. I buy them frozen buy the dozen.
